I like the look of the guitar, but the hollow gold Stagg logo on the headstock is much cheaper looking than your "G2" (McCormacks Music Store) one. I am sure the original label onthe back of the headstock said "Made in China". There are no labels inside that I can see. The gold coloured "plating" on the tuner buttons and bridge feels very thin, and the tuners are just generic budget ones stamped with the Stagg logo that are actually poorer quality than should have been expected on a £300 guitar. The pots and switch are quite cheap quality, but the fairly generic pickups are actually quite good. It's structurally quite well made (apart from the neck twist), but there are glue runs on the braces and kerfing that are visible through the F-holes, raggedy wood splinters poking down into the body cavity where the pickup holes were cut, some narrow beige gaps where the white lacquer butts onto the body and F-hole binding, and the wiring loom that is partly visible through the lower f-hole is taped together with what feels like insulation tape rather than using neater heatshrink. No wonder the poor bugger was disheartened.īy the way, I've looked inside this guitar while installing better wiring and pots, and £300 is right at the upper end of how it should have been priced in view of the overall finish. As you know it has a floating bridge, and that was way out of alignment as well as having a dreadfully high action and relief like a banana. He had seen it on Amazon for £300 about 18 months before that along with a really shitty 10 watt amp and, without knowing anything about electric guitars, thought that it would sound like an acoustic unplugged and an electric when he wanted it to, so he bought it along with some tuition books. Just enter the number below, hit the ‘Decode’ button and our lookup tool will tell you the year your guitar is from, which country it was manufactured in, and even the plant it came from. When he learned that I knew about guitars he brought in the big white Stagg guitar and asked me if I could make it play better. Many years before he and a couple of friends from the small town where he lived used to get together in the local pub and have a strummalong of country and folk stuff, but he never took guitar playing any further than the cowboy chords. He had been widowed a couple of years before that and was looking for a pastime to fill his lonely hours. Probably will be good to practice with it for when I eventually upgrade, which was my intention before buying this. I'm not in a rush to change the action as it doesn't really feel too bad to me. Excellent condition, gloss black finish, single cutaway mahogany body & set neck, white-bound 22-fret ebony fingerboard, 1-11/16 nut width, 24. Serial number coding for Mexican-made instruments is largely the same, except they will start with an M. The nut is not cut all that well and there is room to lower the bridge, but I'd probably just get a new bridge for it if I were to go that route. The remaining digits are important for product identification, but the first few characters are all you need to determine the instruments age. The action is a little high but playable. Mamary queen of scots and elizabeth family tree. This sounds similar to the Martin with more volume. michael kelly guitar serial number lookup.
